Dani Roberts: Leading with Heart, Building Community
In Alamogordo, community is more than a place; it’s a shared responsibility.
For Dani Roberts, that responsibility shows up in everything she does.
By day, Dani serves as director of finance for CHRISTUS Health in Alamogordo, where she has spent the past decade growing her career and supporting the people behind patient care. But beyond the spreadsheets and financial planning, her focus is simple: people - a reflection of CHRISTUS Health's mission and values.
If we support our employees, they take care of our patients
, Dani said.
That belief has guided her journey from staff accountant to senior leadership. Along the way, she has built a reputation for integrity, humility and a deep commitment to doing meaningful work.
I never came here thinking about titles
, she said.
I just wanted to do good work and be someone people could count on.
Bringing New Opportunity to Alamogordo
That same mindset extends far beyond the hospital walls. Dani’s impact in Alamogordo grew from a simple, personal challenge: how to create better opportunities for her daughter, who loved volleyball. Instead of looking elsewhere, Dani chose to build something new. Within weeks, she helped launch a local volleyball club. What started small quickly became something much bigger.
Today, the program serves more than 135 young athletes across the region, supported entirely by volunteers.
I could have taken my daughter somewhere else
, Dani said.
But I wanted to create something here.
For Dani, the club was never just about sports.
It was about creating a culture—one rooted in respect, mentorship and community.
Athletes from different schools now play together. Older players mentor younger ones. High school students volunteer as coaches, learning leadership while giving back.
They look up to you
, Dani said.
You have to show them what that looks like.
It’s a shift that is already making an impact—on the court and beyond. Balancing a leadership role, a growing nonprofit and family life hasn’t always been easy.
There were times I felt overwhelmed
, Dani said.
Then came a moment that brought everything into focus: a photograph of her daughter and teammates, captured in a moment of pure joy.
That’s when I knew—this is why I’m doing this
, she said.
Dani believes Alamogordo is something special, a place where people still show up for each other.
It feels like a sanctuary
, she said.
That belief fuels her work, whether she’s supporting hospital teams, mentoring staff or creating opportunities for young athletes.
And in Alamogordo, that impact is being felt, one person, one team and one community at a time.
